Joseph B. Bobenrieth, Jr., 70, of 214 Ash Street, St. Marys, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Penn Highlands Elk surrounded by his family.

He was born on September 14, 1945, in St. Marys, a son of the late Joseph and Dolores Hayes Bobenrieth.

On December 12, 1970 in St. Marys Church, he married Darlene Auman Bobenrieth, who survives.

Joe was a graduate of ECCHS, class of 1963 and was a member of Sacred Heart Church.  He retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Sergeant Major after more than 23 years of dedicated service.  He served during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.  He enjoyed gardening, baseball and collecting coins and stamps.  Most of all, he loved going to camp and spending time with his family, especially his grandson.

In addition to his wife of nearly 46 years, Darlene Auman Bobenrieth, he is survived by two sons Joseph Bobenrieth, III of San Antonio, TX, Brian (Nancy) Bobenrieth of St. Marys, a daughter, Renee Bobenrieth of San Antonio, TX and by one grandson, Elijah Bobenrieth. 

He is also survived by three brothers, Richard (Kathleen) Bobenrieth of Ridgway, Andrew (Patty) Bobenrieth of St. Marys, and David (Cindy) Bobenrieth of St. Marys, and by ten sisters, Elizabeth Folmar of Millsboro, DE, Jane Yale of MacClenny, FL, Alice Taylor of St. Marys, Susan Berlin of Brockport, Patricia (William) Stevens of Long Beach, MS, Judith (George) Smith of NC, Ann Marie (John) Searle of Clearfield, Mary Ellen (Bradley) DePrater of St. Marys, Helen (Kurt) Weiche of Corinth, TX, and Doris Garza of San Antonio, TX, as well as by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul T. Bobenrieth, US Army, Robert J. Bobenrieth, US Marine Corps, and John M. Bobenrieth, US Air Force.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph B. Bobenrieth, Jr. will be celebrated on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 12:00 PM at Sacred Heart Church, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA with Rev. Alfred Patterson, OSB, officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.

There will be no visitation.


Interment will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
