Maurice L. Barr, 94, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home, and formerly of Kersey, died on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Elk Haven Nursing Home.

He was born on March 15, 1923, in Emporium, a son of the late Lee and Maude Houston Barr.

On January 7, 1947 in he married Mary E. Krise Barr, who preceded him in death on June 22, 2006.

Maurice was a member of Toby United Methodist Church.  He served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II.  He worked for the St. Marys School Bus Lines and retired from Elco Sintered Alloys in Kersey.  He was a member of the Dagus Mines American Legion for more than 72 years and enjoyed golfing and playing cards with his friends.


He is survived by two daughters, Donna (Wayne) Smith of NC, Marlene Lenze of Ridgway, and by three sons, Michael (Helen) Barr of Kersey, Larry (Nancy) Barr of CA, and Maurice "Craig" Barr of Kersey.  He is also survived by 12 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren and 6 Great Great Grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Barr, a sister, Regina Gardner, and a special friend, Doris Schatz.

A Memorial Service for Maurice L. Barr will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Lynch-Green Funeral Home with Rev. Karen Trask, Pastor of Toby United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Fox Township Burial Detail.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 8, 2017 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
