Raymond J. "Joe" Wolfel, 84, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys, died unexpectedly on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Penn Highlands Elk.

He was born on August 23, 1933, in St. Marys, a son of the late Christ and Rose Hasselman Wolfel.  He was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1951.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956 during the Korean War.  He then retired as a General Foreman from Sylvania after more than 33 years of service, where he was also a member of the Quarter Century Club.

On June 27, 1959 in Holy Rosary Church, he married Yolonda Dragone Wolfel, who survives.

In addition to his wife of more than 58 years, Yolonda Dragone Wolfel, he is survived by two sons, Mark Wolfel and his wife Missy and Michael Wolfel and his wife Darla, both of St. Marys, and by a daughter, Rosemarie Brody Schaut and her husband Duane "Dewey" Schaut of St. Marys.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Rachel, Molly, Zach, Chanel, Danielle, Michael, and Jesse, by several step-grandchildren, and by 4 step great-grandchildren.

Joe was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Vanguard Association of the Navy.  He enjoyed spending time with and vacationing with his family.  He also greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas, Robert, and Melvin "Bud" Wolfel, and by two sisters in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Raymond J. Wolfel will be celebrated on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 12:00 PM at St. Marys Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.

There will be no public visitation.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus or to St. Marys Church.
