He was born on June 20, 1927, a son of the late George and Margaret Schuster Herzing. He graduated from St. Marys High School, class of 1948.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1945-1947, serving overseas in the 33rd Infantry.

On May 30, 1953 in Sacred Heart Church, he married Helen Petrilli Herzing, who survives of St. Marys.

In addition to his beloved wife, Helen Petrilli Herzing, he is survived by a daughter, Diane Scutella and her husband Joe; a son, Thomas Herzing and his wife Colette, both of St. Marys, by two grandchildren, Travis (Mandy) Herzing and Ashley Herzing and by three step-grandchildren.  He is also survived by a sister, Rose Belsole of St. Marys; by a brother, William Herzing of Tyler, PA, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Tom was a lifelong resident of the area and member of Sacred Heart Church.  He retired from Stackpole Carbon Company in 1989 after more than 37 years of service, where he was also a member of the Quarter Century Club.  He was a retired member of the Crystal Fire Department, where he was active for more than 17 years.  He was a great sports fan who enjoyed baseball, football, basketball, and boxing.  Tom was an avid coin collector who always enjoyed a game of Skat with his family.  He also enjoyed having coffee at McDonald's with his friends, word search books, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo Herzing, John "Jack" Michel, and Paul Michel, and by two sisters, Martha Morse and Veronica Parrish.
