William V. Wickett

William V. "Bill" Wickett, 88, of 160 Hemlock Road, St. Marys, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Penn Highlands Elk following injuries sustained in an ATV accident last Thursday afternoon.

He was born on April 28, 1928, in St. Marys, a son of the late Joseph and Veronica Engelhardt Wickett.

On January 19, 1952 in St. Patrick's Cathedral in Erie, he married Grace A. Brennen Wickett, who preceded him in death on February 9, 1994.

Bill was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Central High School, class of 1946.  He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of Queen of the World Church.  He had worked for many years as a union carpenter.  He served as adjutant commander of the VFW in Ridgway and was a member of the Moose, Legion, and the Eagles.  He enjoyed spending his time outdoors, gardening, and riding his four-wheeler.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Valerie (Jim) Weis of St. Marys, Cynthia (Denny) Cortinovis of St. Marys, two sons, Tony (Iris) Wickett of St. Marys and Tim (Mary Kay) Wickett of Lewis Run, as well as by 21 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.  He is also survived by a brother, Clarence (Mary Jane) Wickett of St. Marys, a sister, Audrey (Fred) Hillebrand of St. Marys, and by a sister-in-law Rosemary Fritz.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rebecca Weis in 2003, two brothers, Bernard Engelhardt and Joseph Wickett, and by three sisters, Rita Hillebrand, Ethel Buerk and Florence Lucanik.

A Mass of Christian Burial for William Wickett will be celebrated on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 10:00 AM at Queen of the World Church, Queens Road, St. Marys with Pastor Richard Allen, officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
The family will receive friends on Saturday morning at Queen of the Wolrd Church from 9 AM until the time of the service.

Interment will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Elk County Rides for Vets, St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail, Queen of the World Church or to the Elk County Humane Society.
