Gene E. "Shanny" Werner, 82, of 228 Ford Road, St. Marys, died on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.

He was born on October 24, 1935, in Ridgway, a son of the late Francis, Sr., and Marie Rippy Werner.

On August 17, 1973 in St. Marys, he married Marlene Schreiber Werner, who survives.

Shanny was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, class of 1956.  He was a member of Queen of the World Church and was also a member of the Central Hose Company in Johnsonburg.  He had also served in the National Guard.  He worked as a cement truck driver over the years and enjoyed going to antique car shows.  He also enjoyed sitting on the porch and having company.  He was very fond of his monthly reunion dinners with his class from high school.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Jessie.

In addition to his wife of more than 44 years, Marlene Schreiber Werner, he is survived by three daughters, Denise (Doug) Geyer of St. Marys, Mary Lynn (Larry) Garner of Kentucky and Lori (Mike) Gintoli of Connecticut, as well as by seven grandchildren, Andrew, Joseph, Kris, Adriana, Loren, Mark, and Jessie.  He is also survived by one brother, Jon (Sherry) Werner of St. Marys, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, and by a brother, Francis Werner.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Gene E. Werner will be celebrated on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 10:00 AM at Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Rev. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.

The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 9:15 am until the time of the service.
