Geraldine M. "Jerry" Zappia, 89, of 1532 Hill Street, Ridgway, died at her home on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 following a lengthy illness.

She was born on April 9, 1928, in Ridgway, and was a lifelong resident.  She was the daughter and last surviving child of the late Giovanni "John" and Carolina "Lena"  Luty DePanfilis.

Jerry graduated from St. Leo's School with high honors and was the proud recipient of the American Legion award.  After graduation, she married Frank Zappia on July 5, 1948.  He preceded her in death on January 18, 1998.

She was an active member of St. Leo's Parish and involved in the local chapter of the Catholic Daughters of America.  She was employed for many years at the Center Market, where she worked along side her brother-in-law, Louie Morelli.

Jerry enjoyed gardening, vacationing in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and traveling to the local casinos with her friends.  She often entertained in her home and was a generous hostess.  She was appreciated for her quick wit and delightful sense of humor.  Above all, she loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandson, godchildren, and her extended family and looked after them with great care.

She is survived by a daughter, Deborah (Peter) Cotorceanu, and a son,  Joseph (Dawn) Zappia, both of Ridgway, four grandchildren, Leah (Brad) Daniels, Adam Cotorceanu, Justin Zappia and Nikki Zappia, one great-grandson, Braiden Zappia, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by eight siblings, Marie Morelli, Francis DePanfilis, John DePanfilis, Joseph DePanfilis, Beatrice Bomba, James DePanfilis, Theresa Geitner and Ronald DePanfilis.
