Howard V. Dippold, 91, a resident of Pinecrest Manor, and formerly of 115 Poplar Road, St. Marys, died on Wednesday evening, November 29, 2017 at Pinecrest Manor following an illness of the past year.

He was born on October 2, 1926, in St. Marys, a son of the late Carl and Clara Lauderbach Dippold.

On July 7, 1956 in Sacred Heart Church, he married Shirley Hickman, who preceded him in death on October 4, 1996.

Howie was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Central High School, class of 1943.  He served in the Navy during WWII, and was on board the LST 447 near Japan when it was bombed and subsequently sank.  Howie was injured and was awarded a Purple Heart, having served from 1944-1946.  He retired from Sylvania after many years of service.  He was a member of the K of C for more than 70 years and was also a member of the American Legion.  He enjoyed going to his camp on West Creek and his many travels over the years.

He is survived by four daughters, Diane (Trent) Thompson of Houston, TX, Debra (John) Reuscher of Cherryville, NC, Donna (Andrew) Reuscher of St. Marys, and Darlene (Jon) Buttery of St. Marys, as well as by seven grandchildren, Joshua (Chrissy) Thompson, John Reuscher, Emily Reuscher, Brittany (Travis) Wendel, Benjamin Reuscher, Sophie Assalone and Holly Buttery and by two great-grandchildren, Peyton and Rory, and a dear friend, Wilda Fleming of St. Marys.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Herron.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Howard V. Dippold will be celebrated on Monday, December 4, 2017, at 12:00 PM at Sacred Heart Church, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Rev. Michael Gabler, OSB, officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Interment will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Elk County Catholic School System or to the Pinecrest Manor Activity Fund.
