James Anderson Obituary

James J. Anderson, 86, a resident of Elco Glen of St. Marys, died on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.

He was born on October 28, 1931, in St. Marys, a son of the late Arthur and Bertha Selle Anderson.

Mr. Anderson was a member of St. Marys Church and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He attended Central High School and was employed by the Daily Press, Stackpole Carbon Company, and had owned and operated the Country Tavern.  He then retired from the Elk County Housing Authority.

 

He is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Debbie) Anderson of St. Marys, Edward (Jennifer) Anderson of Kersey, and Timothy Anderson, Weedville, by two daughters, Grace Bollhurst of Shinglehouse and Cheryl (Timothy) Giles of Penfield.  He was blessed with 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Stauffer of St. Marys, and Patricia Pearson of Emporium, and by his former wife of nearly 25 years, Nadine Seelye Anderson Brosky, and his second wife, Mary Jo Kline Mertz Anderson, as well as by several step-children.

 

He was a member of the VFW and was a life member of the Moose.  He enjoyed cooking and had owned Anderson Catering years ago.  He enjoyed camping, Nascar, fishing and hunting.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Anderson, a sister, Jean Espin, two grandsons, Josh Giles and Johnny Paul Milkovich, and by a daughter-in-law, Kristine Anderson.

A Mass of Christian Burial for James J. Anderson will be celebrated on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 10:00 AM, at the St. Marys Church, Church Street, St. Marys with Fr. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, officiating.

Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.

Interment will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Friday, August 24, 2018 from 5-8 PM.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
