Jerome J. "Jerry" Hanes, 81, of 270 George Street, St. Marys, died on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at UPMC Altoona Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born on July 15, 1936, in St. Marys, a son of the late Jerome G. "Red" and Marie C. Beimel Hanes.

On September 20, 1958 in Queen of the World Church, he married Norma Friedl Hanes, who survives.  He was a graduate of St. Marys High School, class of 1954.  He retired from Keystone Carbon Company after more than 40 years of service.

In addition to his wife of more than 58 years, Norma Friedl Hanes, he is survived by one daughter, Dr. Darcy Hanes and her husband Joe Martin of Beltsville, MD, and by one grandson whom he cherished, Ryan Martin.  He is also survived by a brother, Steven Hanes, McDonald, and by a sister, Kathryn Nelson of Dormont.

Jerry was a 59 year veteran of the Crystal Fire Department, where he was an active member until the time of his death.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most of all, spending time with his grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Jerome J. Hanes will be celebrated on Friday, October 20, 2017, at 10:00 AM at St. Marys Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Rev. Peter Pierjok, OSB, officiating.
Crystal Fire Department will be performing the rites and the processional to church.
Interment will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.
