John R. "Jack" Geer, 96, of Silvercreek Terrace, St. Marys, died on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Penn Highlands Elk following a lengthy illness.

He was born on December 22, 1920, in Johnsonburg, a son of the late Wade and Julia Shannon Geer.

In 1988 in Queen of the World Church, he married Rose M. Dickant Rieder Geer, who survives.  Jack graduated from Johnsonburg High School, class of 1938.  He then served in the U.S. Army during WWII, spending 3 1/2 years in Company B, 319th Infantry 80th Division.  He received the ETO Campaign Ribbon with 4 Battle Stars, the Combat Infantry Battle Badge, and a Bronze Star.  He then retired in 1983 from the Johnsonburg paper mill after more than 43 years of service.

In addition to his beloved wife, Rose Mary, he is survived by two step-daughters, Marcy (Bill) Meyer and Charlene (Randy) Yetzer, both of St. Marys, 10 nieces, 2 nephews, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by a brother, Norbert Geer of St. Marys.

Jack enjoyed birdwatching, baseball, and gardening.  He also took pleasure in hunting and fly fishing.  Jack loved and was loved by many, and he greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, whom he treasured immensely.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Loren Geer, two sisters, Genevieve Sutka and Eileen Crowe, and by three step-children, Renee Rieder, Ronnie Rieder and Randy Rieder.

A Mass of Christian Burial for John R. Geer will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at 10:00 AM at St. Marys Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857, with Rev. Alfred Patterson OSB Officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.

There will be no visitation.

Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery in Johnsonburg.
