Dennis Fritz Obituary

Dennis H. Fritz, 82, of 124 Terrace Road, St. Marys, died at his home early Thursday morning, January 21, 2021 surrounded by his family.

He was born August 1, 1938, in St. Marys, son of the late Arthur “Stub” and Bertha Tyler Fritz.

On Nov 18, 1961, in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Mary Ann Dodrill, who survives.

He attended St. Marys Public High Schools.  From 1953-1956, he worked part-time all throughout school. He was employed by the Friendly Cab and Edward Bus Lines when he received his Federal Communication License in 1954.

In 1955, he enlisted in the United States Army. In 1957, he was transferred to the Army Reserves and was Honorable Discharged in 1963 with a rank of Senior Communication Section Sergeant - serving 6 years active and 2 years inactive.

From 1958 to 1960 he worked at Pure Carbon Company as a Lathe Operator/Specialties employee.

Denny graduated in 1960 from the Pittsburgh Barber School with a Registered Barber Manager Degree.   He built and owned his Barber Shop on North St.  Marys Road.

In 1972, he started buying and remodeling over 20 homes in St. Marys and surrounding areas.  He was also a Landlord with approximately 16 rental units over the years.

In 1976, Denny was licensed by The Pennsylvania State University in Real Estate.

In addition to his wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Ann Dodrill Fritz, he is survived by his son; Daniel H. (Rhonda) Fritz, and daughter; Julia (Jeff) Smith, all of St. Marys, by 5 grandchildren; Jeanette (Nick) Cowan of Waldorf, Maryland, Jeana (Hector) Marquez of Bradford, Shelby Eozzo of St. Marys and Tristan Fritz and Rachelle Fritz, both of St. Marys. He is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren; Emery Cowan, Paisley Marquez and William Marquez, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by twin brothers in infancy Donald and Ronald, his brother and sister-in-law Arthur “Boots” and Arthalinda Fritz, and his sister and brother-in-law Doris and Dr Charles Tahara.  He was the last member of his immediate family.

He enjoyed collecting antiques, especially carnival glass and going to his camp at East Branch Dam. Never turning down a good yard sale, he also enjoyed traveling to the beach in the Delaware Seashore State Park, Indian River Inlet, and the Florida Keys. He loved traveling in their motor home and fishing in the ocean on their boat. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by all.

Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.
