Esther B. Kirkland

Esther B. Kirkland, 91, of 185 Center Street, St. Marys, died on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Pinecrest Manor.

She was born on September 9, 1930, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Paul and Loretta Wehler Bankovich.

She was formerly married to the late Albert Kirkland.

Esther was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of St. Marys Public High School, class of 1948.  She was a member of St. Marys Church and had volunteered for many years in the kitchen at Sacred Heart Church.  Over the years, she had also assisted in the kitchen at the First United Methodist Church and with the annual Christmas Day Dinner.  She was also a member of the Slovenian National Polka Boosters.

She is survived by one sister; Marcella "Sally" Stanisch of St. Marys, as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four sons; Brian in 1979, and Ronald, Kenneth, and Eugene in infancy, as well as by a daughter, Linda, in infancy.  She was also preceded in death by three brothers; Leander "Pint" Bankovich, Jerome "Beezie" Bankovich, and Norman "Normie" Bankovich and by three sisters; Helen "Mutchie" Wendel, Marian Viglione, and Alice Schade.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Esther B. Kirkland will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at 10:00 AM at St. Marys Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, Pa 15857 with Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, officiating.

Family and friends will be received at the St. Marys Church on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass.

Interment will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
