Obituary

Gary G. Cheatle, 69, a resident of Snyder Memorial Nursing Home and formerly of S. Michael Street, St. Marys, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2022 following a long battle with Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD).

He was born on April 6, 1953, in St. Marys, a son of the late Edward and Mary Rippy Cheatle.

 On September 10, 1988, he married Christine Shuttleworth, who survives.  Together, faith and love endured, and they shared more than 34 years of marriage.

Gary was a member of Queen of the World Church and a graduate of St. Marys High School, class of 1971.  He worked for more than 25 years at Morgan AM&T. Over the years, he was a Cub Scout leader and enjoyed working on projects around the house.  He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and enjoying a nice walk in the woods.  He was an avid chess player who also enjoyed puzzles and Sodoku.  Gary was a talented woodworker and enjoyed sharing his creations with family and friends.  His greatest joy and accomplishment in life was his family, and he loved spending time with them.

In addition to his wife of more than 34 years, Christine Shuttleworth Cheatle, he is survived by one daughter; Stacey Gorton and her husband Bill of Ridgway, two sons; Ethan Cheatle and his fiancé Sharon Ng of Boston, MA, and Benjamin Cheatle of St. Marys and three grandchildren; Ayden, Kyle, and Julia. He is also survived by eleven siblings; Thomas (Henrietta) Cheatle of St. Marys, Wayne Cheatle of McConnellsburg, Dan Cheatle of Kersey, Ed (Lisa) Cheatle of Emlenton, James (Donna) Cheatle of St. Marys, Mary (Paul) Ogren of Santa Monica, CA, Jean (Jerry0 Green of Copperas Cove, TX, Sharon Merrit of Trenton, NJ, Lily Schreiber of Kersey, Patricia Vanatta of Johnsonburg, and Lori (Rodney) Weyant of Brookville, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews and by his mother-in-law; Joann Shuttleworth of St. Marys.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister; Ella Brown, by a brother in infancy; Richard, and by his father-in-law; Robert Shuttleworth.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Gary G. Cheatle will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Queen of the World Church, 334 Queens Road, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Eric Vogt, OSB as celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Monday, October 24, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 PM.
