James Challingsworth Obituary

James T. “Jim” Challingsworth, 78, of Bank Street, St. Marys, passed away at his motorcycle shop on Friday, August 5, 2022 doing exactly what he loved, working on motorcycles.

He was born on January 20, 1944, in Upper Darby, PA, a son of the late Ted “The Colonel” Challingsworth and Mary Ann Doughery Challingsworth.

On August 21, 1982, in St. Agnes Episcopal Church, he married Roxe Anne Himes, who survives.  Together they shared nearly 40 years of love, laughter, and marriage.

Jim was a graduate of DuBois High School, having attended more than 13 school districts in 7 states during his scholastic career.  He retired from Gerg Tool and Die after more than 30 years of service.

To say Jim was an avid motorcycle enthusiast would be an understatement, he lived and breathed motorcycles, owning and operating Challingsworth Cycles since 1969.  He was a life member of the American Motorcycle Association, the Goldstar Club, and the American Historical Racing Motorcycle Association.   In his earlier years, he raced with #75 professional flat track along with his friend EJ “Bud” Auman. With a lifelong passion for Triumph motorcycles, he spent much of his time at his garage, fixing and working on cycles.  He also loved trips out west, considering Colorado his “happy place”.

In addition to his wife of nearly 40 years, Roxe Anne Himes Challingsworth, he is survived by five children; Missy (Dan) Pistner of Kersey, Dan (Julie) Challingsworth of Jamestown, NY, James (Samantha) Challingsworth of St. Marys, David (Julie) Challingsworth of St. Marys and Fred (Greta) Challingsworth of Ridgway and by 10 grandchildren; Dustin, Sasha, Evan, DJ, Emiley, Logan, Damian, Lindsey, Alexia, and Meghann, and by 7 great-grandchildren and 2 step-granddaughters; Allison and Courteney. He is also survived by five siblings; Joe Challingsworth of Ridgway, Jack Challingsworth and Brad Challingsworth, both of Florida, Christine Johnson of Maryland, and Cathy Garcia of Coalport, by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his longtime friend that he considered to be family; Dave “Mort” Heberling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters in infancy and by a sister; Mary Ann Winkleman.
