Joseph Powers Obituary

Joseph L. "Hopsing" Powers, 71, of 136 Toby Road, Kersey, died on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Penn Highlands DuBois following a year-long battle with cancer.

He was born on September 30, 1949, in Ridgway, a son of the late Paul and Mary Cesa Powers.

Joe was a graduate of St. Marys High School and member of St. Boniface Church.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He worked for many years on the railroad.  He was a member of the American Legion, Eagles, CMF, and the PFL.  In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, gardening, and golfing.

He is survived by his longtime friend, Sharon Rieder of Kersey, and her children; Jay Rieder of Kersey, Shannon Rieder and her fiance John Cooney of Kersey, Ashley Rieder and her fiance Wayne Podalski of St. Marys, and Greg Rieder of Kersey and by 5 grandchildren; Aiden, Tanner, Kash, Triton, and Alexa.  He is also survived by numerous cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Paul and William Powers.

Funeral Services and Military Honors are being scheduled and will be held privately with the family.

Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery.
