Norma Hanes Obituary

Norma F. Hanes, 85, of 270 George Street, St. Marys, died on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Christ the King Manor following a brief illness.

She was born on January 8, 1936, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Walter and Catherine Distler Friedl.

On September 20, 1958 in Queen of the World Church, she married the late Jerome J. Hanes, Jr., who preceded her in death on October 10, 2017.

Norma was a lifetime resident of St. Marys, and worked as a nurse for Carbone for more than 20 years.  She was a lifelong member of the St. Marys Catholic Church where she worked as a volunteer for many years.  Norma also did extensive volunteer work with the Christian Food Bank. 

Norma is survived by one daughter; Darcy Hanes and her husband Joseph Martin of Beltsville, MD and by one grandson; Ryan Martin and his fiance Juliena Herritz also of Beltsville, MD.

In addition to her husband and parents, Norma was preceded in death by a brother; Donald Friedl, and a sister; Martha Friedl Hauber.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Norma F. Hanes will be celebrated on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 10:00 AM at St. Marys Catholic Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, officiating.
A private interment will be held in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.  

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Penn Highlands Community Nurses.
