Richard Krieg Obituary


Richard A. "Dick" Krieg, 94, of 191 Taft Road, St. Marys, died on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Aug. 13, 1924, in St. Marys, a son of the late Louis and Rose Sarginger Krieg.
On March 13, 1952 in St. Marys Church, he married Alice Gerg Krieg, who survives of St. Marys.
Dick was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from St. Marys High School, class of 1943. He was drafted to the Navy in 1944, serving on board the attack troop transport U.S. LaRue during the invasion of Saipan, Tinian and Okinowa Theatres.
In addition to his wife of more than 66 years, Alice Gerg Krieg, he is survived by his son-in-law, Richard Meyer of St. Marys; his granddaughter, LeeAnn (Andy) Skryzpek; and three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Gracie, and Austin.  He is also survived by a brother, Gary Krieg; by three sisters: Esther Miller of St. Marys; Carol (William) Thompson of Pasadena, California; and Donna Yetzer of St. Marys; as well as by two sisters-in-law, Jean Krieg and Gerry Krieg, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
Dick was instrumental in the construction of the St. Marys Dam, the Kinzua Dam, the Kinzua Upper Reservoir, and the Taconite Mine Facility in Babbitt, Minnesota.  He also worked on the New York road projects was employed by the Hunkin-Conkey Company of Niagara Falls. He also worked locally at the carbon companies until retirement. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Krieg Meyer, who died on Aug.19, 2000; and by three brothers, William Krieg, Earl "Bud" Krieg, and Howard "Nipper" Krieg.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard A. Krieg will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at 12 p.m. at St. Marys Church, Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Peter Augustine Pierjok, Pastor, officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Interment will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Community Nurses, Inc.
