Ronald Potter Obituary

Ronald W. "Sam" Potter, 80, of 114 Haggerty Road, St. Marys, died on Sunday, January 09, 2022 at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born on August 3, 1941, in Philipsburg, a son of the late Donald and Mary Louise May Potter.

On April 15, 1999 he married Claire Maney McGonigal-Potter, who survives of St. Marys.

Sam was Lutheran by faith and graduated from Clearfield High School, class of 1959.  He worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator at River Hill Coal Company and retired in 2007 from Air Liquide after a number of years as a truck driver.  One of Sam's favorite places was his camp in Driftwood, where he found solace and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors.  He was a friend to all and greatly loved his late dog, Leroy.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children; Pamela Kirkwood and her husband Stanley of Frenchville, Gregory "Tom" Potter and his wife Sharon of Frenchville, and Trudie Kephart and her husband Bruce of Osceola Mills, by four grandchildren; Tyler (Megan) Kirkwood, Chantelle (Jeremy) Carns, Micaela Potter, and Emma (Gavin) Starr and by 5 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by three siblings; John "Jack" (Barb) Potter of Pine Glen, Karen Lucas of Clearfield, and Marcia (Charlie) Duff of Pine Glen, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service for Ronald W. "Sam" Potter will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the Community Alliance Church,  34136 Frenchville Karthaus Highway, Karthaus, PA 16845 with Pastor Dan Deeman officiating.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the Community Alliance Church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

Interment will be in Oak Hill Memorial Cemetery.


Memorial Contributions may be made to Oak Hill Memorial Cemetery, the Community Alliance Church in Karthaus, St. Marys Ambulance Service, or to Shepard of the Hill Lutheran Church in Karthaus.
