Eugene E. Hyatt, 98, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of 128 Dagus Mines Road, Dagus Mines, PA, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, February 21, 2017 at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
 
He was born August 29, 1918, in Kersey, son of the late Edward and Lilly Hedlund Hyatt.
 
On August 31, 1940, at St. Leo Church in Ridgway, he married Jennie Marie Curci, who preceded him in death on July 26, 2010.
 
Gene, who resided in Kersey, attended Kersey High School, and lived and worked in Elk County all his life.  He was the last living member of his graduating class of 1936 and the last member of his immediate family.
 
He is survived by a son and daughter, Robert L. Hyatt and his wife Joanne of Kersey, and Margaret Breindel and her husband Robert of St. Marys; eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
 
He was employed by The Elliot Co for 10 years as a machinist, then, The Prudential Insurance Company as an agent for 20 years, retiring in 1977.  He had been a member of St. Boniface Parish, the School Board and charter member of the Lion’s Club.  He served many years on the Planning Commission.  He enjoyed reading, traveling, and home improvement projects.  He spent several years managing and improving rental properties, as well as developing Hyatt Court, a housing development in Kersey.
 In addition to his beloved wife, Jennie M. Curci Hyatt, he was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lilly Hedlund Hyatt.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, George Swanson and Tom Hyatt and by two sisters, Arlene Johnson and Isabel Lutz.
 
There will be no visitation.
Funeral and committal services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
